While filmmaking remains Hélène de Cartier’s primary focus, photography has long been a complementary and intuitive part of her practice.

She has deepened her engagement with the medium through commissioned work and by working for photographer Renato D’Agostin, whose meticulous approach to analogue processes has had a significant influence on her own.

What draws her to photography is its capacity to give physical form to the language of cinema and to distill fragments of time, emotion, and atmosphere into a single frame. It offers a space for immediacy and materiality that echoes the sensibility of her film work.
